Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine
Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine offers a wide range of physical, mental and emotional benefits. If you're currently receiving medical treatment, my approach can complement your existing regimen enhancing its effectiveness. I have helped numerous individuals achieve deeper relaxation, find relief from pain and improve their overall quality of life.
For those dealing with stress or anxiety, Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine interventions can help restore balance and promote a sense of calm and relaxation. They are easy to learn, cost effective and readily available to use.
Examples of Mind-Body-Spirit interventions include meditation, breathwork, visualization, guided imagery and the relaxation response. These holistic practices contribute to a better overall quality of life.
This work is centered around creating a healing partnership where the client is the expert on their own needs and experiences, and I bring expertise in holistic medicine. Together, we create the optimal conditions for healing which may involve research, finding resources, decision-making support, referrals and family involvement. My goal is to educate and empower the patient, guiding them to find their own path without promoting a particular approach.
A cancer diagnosis profoundly impacts not just the body, but also the mind, emotions and spirit. I believe that the heart and spirit can influence the course of illness. My work helps clients understand their illness, find their strengths and explore their fears. I provide a safe space for clients to reflect on the meaning of their disease, helping them tap into their inner resources and discover hope.
I teach Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine techniques that can reduce the side effects of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. These simple, effective self-care methods support the immune system and improve quality of life during treatment.
I believe the best care addresses all of the client's needs—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When these urgent needs are met, patients become less fearful, more peaceful and can recover more quickly. It is my hope that one day every patient will have access to a CancerGuide® from the moment of diagnosis.
My vision is to provide the best holistic care possible, recognizing that the emotions, mind and spirit need as much attention as the body. The paradox is in finding acceptance while taking action.
Preparing for surgery can significantly enhance your healing process. As a holistic nurse specializing in mind-body-spirit medicine techniques, I offer personalized support to help you prepare for surgery. Surgery can be a frightening experience and even the thought of it can trigger feelings of panic. I provide proven tailored methods to address your specific fears and concerns, helping you feel calmer before surgery and promoting faster recovery afterward.
With extensive experience as a medical-surgical nurse and PACU (recovery room) nurse, I have worked with a wide range of surgical patients. My experience includes heart transplants, open-heart surgeries, neurosurgeries for brain tumors, liver transplants and resections, hip and knee replacements, spinal and shoulder surgeries and various cancer surgeries such as lumpectomies, mastectomies, breast reconstructions, prostate cancer surgeries, pancreatic and ovarian cancer surgeries, hysterectomies and more.
The benefits of preparing for surgery with mind-body relaxation and visualization techniques include feeling calmer before surgery, experiencing less anxiety, reducing pain post-surgery, strengthening your immune system and recovering faster.
An Urban Zen Integrative Therapist (UZIT) is a therapist trained in the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy program which merges Eastern and Western healing practices. Launched in 2009 by the Urban Zen Foundation, founded by fashion designer Donna Karan, this program aims to create a healthcare system that treats patients holistically.
Urban Zen Integrative Therapy treats the classic symptoms of stress and illness with the PANIC Model: Pain, Anxiety, Nausea, Insomnia, Constipation and Exhaustion, with the perfect combination of restorative yoga, breath awareness, aromatherapy, guided imagery, Reiki and compassionate care.
Urban Zen is a restorative practice designed for everyone, focusing on daily self-care to promote a sense of well-being and inner peace.
Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing, heart-centered energy therapy that uses gentle, intentional touch to balance physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Research suggests that Healing Touch can be beneficial in calming anxiety, reducing symptoms of depression, decreasing pain, strengthening the immune system, enhancing recovery from surgery, supporting cancer care and creating a sense of overall well-being.
All healing is essentially self-healing. While a physician can set bone fragments in place, it is the body that heals itself—the physician merely directs and facilitates the process. Similarly, Healing Touch facilitates the healing process but operates from an energy perspective rather than a purely physical one. The Healing Touch practitioner works to realign the body's energy flow, reactivating the mind-body-spirit connection and eliminating blockages to healing.
Healing Touch can help with pain management, neck and back problems, anxiety reduction, wound and fracture healing, high blood pressure, pre-and post-surgical procedures, cancer care (including chemotherapy and radiation), grief management and overall well-being. Documented studies have shown that with hands-on energy work, surgical wounds and sutures heal faster, burns clear up sooner and circulation and breathing improve post-surgery.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is a vibrational energy therapy facilitated by light touch which balances the human biofield (energy field).
A Healing session can help reduce stress, tension and also help the body to facilitate an environment for physical, mental and emotional healing. If this is your first session, I’ll go over the process and what you can expect. Each session builds from the previous one.
A Long Distance Healing Session can be just as effective as an “in person” session. It starts with a phone call (or Zoom call) to identify issues which the client wants to address, followed by an energy session, like healing touch, and then an immediate follow-up phone call to process the session. Generally a Long Distance Healing Session is one to one and a half hours long.
I offer a variety of group opportunities. The cost varies, please see the schedule on the home page as it changes monthly. Free classes are offered during the lunch hour.
